Van Go

OK So here is what I have come up with on the Van Front!

The van will be called "Vincent" (Vincent Van Go!)
Or Vantastic Adventures.

It will be cougar blue, With a decal *magnetic* that says Cougar Fan.

There will be a platform bed in the back large enough to sleep two adults or one adult two kids.
Underneath the platform facing out will be a 12 volt freezer/fridge connected to deep cycle batteries, It will have a microwave and toaster oven as well (only to be used when engine on). The batteries will be auxiliary, charging while driving, draining while parked, but not draining the main car battery. I will have a hot water shower out the back (stored underneath platform bed), A card table stored underneath as well, with chairs. A portable Tupperware tub (large) would double as bath (small kids) and storage for beach items.

There will be two rows of seats (capacity for 6 in the back) With a board/mattress that can rest on seated portion at night to make two more child beds.

Portable DVD player mounted back of driver seat is entertainment.

The co-pilot seat will swivel so co-pilot can easily get back to help kids.

There will be a portable toilet (ONLY FOR EMERGENCY) stowed in back that can be accessed if needed, and Velcro shower curtain to ceiling to allow privacy.

This set up would work in a full size van. It would be my "Vantastic Adventure." Small enough to park in a hotel parking lot, or go through the drive through, Large enough to sleep in. Economical enough (20mpg) to take the family to see the country. When the kids get too grumpy, we can pull over and play in a park while the baby sleeps in a portacrib, we can have cold food, or cook popcorn and watch a movie!

I think I could build all of this for $10-12K. Cheaper than an RV, And more economical. And we can still stay in hotels, or camp...

Now all I need is a van... Money... Time... and Permission...

  1. What a great idea. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. Uncle Tess made one years ago and they loved it. Way to go!
