Baby Prep

Our baby is due in one month! This is exciting. Our baby bag is getting packed this weekend.

As we prepare, I think back to all the Dukes of Hazzard, Little House on the Prarie, and Dr Quinn Medicine Woman episodes on child birth, and I have one question:

What were all those ripped up sheets, and kettles of boiling water used for?

Is my hospital equipped for my baby?

New Computer

So our old computer stopped working so well. We tried to fix it, but ultimately just got a new one. Buying a computer is weird, not like buying a car.

I am not a computer person, all I do is Internet searches, watch movies, email, vacation research, maybe a word document. So I have a hard time figuring out how all the programs work... or cease to work.

So if buying a car was like buying a computer it would be something like this.

1 Buy the car,
2 Pay for the transmission separately,
3 Have the air conditioner downloaded and installed over the radio
4 Spend 4 hours on the phone being walked through how the seat controls and window wipers work
5 Relearning how to put the car in gear with each new car.
6 Getting a new car every 3 years because the old one stopped functioning for no reason.
7 I am sure there are some kind of land pirates that would periodically drive your car to the store, and come back covered with filthy magazines.
8 If you leave the windows down for so long the car will need to be shut off and restarted to function properly again. And it would work fine after that too!
9 None of this is explained in the manual
10 You would have to click 'I agree' before turning it on for the first time, and every time you listened to the radio

I need to take a class, I feel really stupid.

Easter Candy

So the kids got up wanting to eat their candy from Easter. I asked Eli what Easter was about and he replied, "Easter is when the Easter bunny gives us candy to tell us Jesus lived after he died."

Clearly I have some work to do, but he is only 3 so I think it is pretty close.

Bridget and I were thinking of healthy ways to use the candy and came up with the following:
1. Cadburry Egg Omelet
2. Peeps Chick Salad
3. Jelly Bean Burrito
4. Peeps rabbit stew.
5. (this one might work) Peeps Chick Jello Salad
6. Throwing it all in the trash
7. Letting the ants in our house eat it.
8. Reece's PB cup and jelly bean sandwich.

I like option 6 best, but option 3 and 8 sound tempting.

Easter conversations

ELI: Dada why does the Easter bunny come?
ME: Because Jesus Died then came back to life so that we all can live again with him.
ELI: Yeah Dada, I know that, but why does the Easter bunny come?
ME: Uhhh.... good question
------------------------------------------
ME (on Easter Morning): OK Eli, lets go eat breakfast.
ELI: Oh Dada, I don't need breakfast, the Easter Bunny brought me Peeps and Candy.
ME: We need something more healthy, would you like "Cookie Crisp" or "Froot loops." (I guess there isn't much difference between peeps and cold cereal!)

(At least I didn't Offer a Cadbury Egg omlet)

Obesity in the Baker house

There is an Epidemic in the Baker house: Obesity. Half of the household adults are overweight.

I now weigh 199 lbs, more than I have ever weighed.

Need to start training again.

Idiot

I am not a good dad.

I was in the office and heard from the other room. "Idiot." I then had the following conversation.

Me: Eli what did you say?
Him: Idiot.
Me: Don't call your sister that, that is not nice Eli.
Him: No dada, not my sister, the dart is being an idiot for not sticking to the window.

I would ask where he heard it but I already know. To be fair, I have been trying to tell him not to be an idiot... if that makes a difference.

At least I don't swear.

Adventures in Parenting

Today we made cheese. It really wasn't that hard, or even on purpose.
Dora hid a bottle underneath some toys. The nerd in me wants to leave another bottle to try to replicate and figure out how long it has been there.
Bridget told me no.
