Ice Road Truckers!

So here is how our trip ended. Spirit airline cancelled our flight. The only way we could make it back in time for my shift was to drive. So we rented a minivan and loaded up in Orlando at 8 am.

We hate Spirit Airlines now by the way, but that is another story.

So, we stopped at a BBQ place and got a whole chicken, rack of ribs, pulled pork, corn, corn bread, and a gallon of Sprite. That was the best pulled pork I've had. The ribs and chicken were good too. Cornbread was almost like dessert, and that gallon of sprite lasted most of the trip.

When we got to Baton Rouge, there was freezing rain. We saw 20 cars off road, then had a 3 car pile up happen right in front of us. A pickup trailer and SUV collided on an icy bridge and a ford ranger came barreling accross and hit them like pin balls. It was the straw that broke our trip. Carla called relatives and we stated the night.
When we got up, we had a great breakfast of grits, eggs, bacon, toast, and more bacon.

We went outside to the closest Louisiana gets to winter wonderland.
Eli was pulling ice off of the car in sheets and throwing it on the ground. You've never seen a happier kid

The freeway was closed. The bridges over the Mississippi River were closed. The freeway from Baton Rouge to Lafeyette was closed.

I had to be to work in 10 hrs. Carla and I looked at the map and took an old highway accross Mississippi, and drove around the Achafilaya. We came into Lafayette, to see a parking lot on the East Bound. We were headed west. I-10 was a parking lot eastbound for 60 miles!  If we hadn't taken that little highway, we never would have made it!

We returned our rental van, and just as we got into our car, Tessa started vomiting.

We had a really fun trip. All this makes me want to never fly Spirit. They cancelled 1 flight. Ours. Weather in Houston and Orlando was fine. They were the only airline to cancel a flight.

But, all this made me want to get a sma rv. Something with a bed, and a toilet.  Now I'm back to dreaming about my campervan.
