So Bridget was out on a girls night. We were having carpet installed.
I had the kids in the other end of the house, it was well after dark. I went to go talk to the carpet guy and move some furniture when the power went out.
I ran down the steps past three guys lighting the floor with cell phones. Using my phone I ran down the hall and saw the saddest and cutest thing in the world: Eli and Dora had a look of panic and shock as they were standing in the middle of the room crying and holding each others hand.
I quickly explained that the power was out. But it was at seeing me that they stopped crying! They held my hand as I guided them to the couch. I then put a movie on my phone so they could sit and watch. They held hands as Eli told Dora, "dad can fix the lights, don't be scared."
As they watched Busytown, on my iPhone, I found flashlights and batteries.
I got them ready for bed, gave them each a flashlight, and they eventually went to sleep.
They wanted to sleep in the same room, to be safe in the dark.
It is interesting what a shock we get in without power. It is also interesting how much comfort family can be when you are scared.
Phones have become lifelines: my flashlight, movie, email, Internet, and phone! I looked up who to call, called them, then watched a movie on Netflix till I had power again!
As cool as it all is, no wonder we don't have a relationship with Heavenly Father, we can be distracted anywhere!
Power us back but it has me rethinking a few things...
And I need to get more flashlights.
