Peru Adventure Day 2

We had a great day yesterday. Today we had big plans too. Eli took more pictures than I did. But I listened to the guide more. First we woke and went to Pisaq. It was the administration center from Cusco to the amazon. It was the east center and was a gate to the Inka empire. They built it upp on the hill even though the flat ground was plenty fertile. I often wonder if they didn’t build these things as a fit of busy work. “Go farm the valley!” Says king Inka
“We did sir” reply the people.
“Don’t smartmouth me! Go terrace that you place and build an impossible to attack fortress on a hill no one wants....”. Mumbling. “That will teach them”.

I lived on a hill in Oregon once. You drop a basketball your game is over. Trust. Me.

Anyway. The ruins were amazing. Even Eli agreed.

Notice two things in thesis next picture. 1. Amazing terraces. They form with rocks. Then gravel then sand then dirt. So they don’t erode and can water the next terrace below. 2. I have those same adidas sweat pants. I didn’t realize academy had stores down here with pants on sale.

Here is the doorway to the Inka trail going to Cusco. It was lockable.

Up top were apartments and a priest building. They wouldn’t let us go to the temple site because two years ago someone pushed a rock from higher up and it killed a kid.

Look at that farm. Must be difficult to turn the tractor around..... 😂

The view from above. Some apartments look nicer than the ones I stayed at in BYU.

If you look closely those hikes are where mummies were Burried. Over 3000 so far.

This is the San Pedro cactus. It is hallucinogenic. It made the trip way more interesting. Kidding.

Ollantaytombo. These might be my favorite ruins. They look like lord of the rings met the people on King Kong’s island. Big huge walls. Steps for a giant. Yet defensible.

Accross the way is the Inca food storage depot. The wind is almost constant there and it preserves the food.

Also. See if you can see the Face Of Winachoka in the mountain

Here’s a door to the sun Temple.

Here is The son in the Sun temple.

Look at the size of that rock! Oh and there’s an Inka religious wall too.

This Inka trail goes up the PatcheMama valley. Here comes eli running down the mountain when he comes.
I hope we can get people to take our pictures on the Trail tomorrow.

Water temple fountain in Ollantaytombo.

Look. Dinner!

The Inka figured out how to freeze dry potatoes. They set them in the cold night and froze them hard then sat them in sun to dehydrate them. Pretty impressive. I have them placed next to an oversized piece of Inka corn. Just to give size references.

Potatoes and corn in various varieties.

This smells very strongly. But I don’t think the alpacas and llamas even noticed it.

These Flowers’s were amazingly pretty.

Making textiles.
